This warm drink is perfect served both warm or chilled. Great chilled in the evening after a barbecue in the Spring and Summer, and awesome during Fall and Winter as a warm mug of good cheer. Either way this is a spicy treat for adults. This recipe makes around 10 servings. To serve a child friendly version, omit wine and use sparkling grape juice.
Ingredients:
2 cups water boiling
3 tea bags
1 32-ounce bottle cranberry juice
1/2 cup brown sugar
20 allspice whole
20 cloves whole
2 cinnamon sticks
1 bottle dry red wine (750ml)
Orange or Lemon slices
Instructions:
In a small sauce pan boiling water and add in tea bags. Let the tea bags steep in the boiling water for around 5 to 7 minutes. Squeeze excess liquid from tea bags and set tea aside. In another sauce pan add brown sugar, cranberry juice, allspice, cloves and cinnamon sticks. Bring to a boil, stir occasionally. Lower heat and simmer for around 15 minutes. Using a colander or mesh strainer, remove spices. Stir in tea and wine and heat through stirring gently. Serve hot in mugs. If you desire this chilled, wait until mixture is room temperature and then add to pitcher and chill for about two hours prior to serving. Add slices of Oranges or Lemons for a nice garnish. To add great flavor, try freezing orange juice in ice trays and adding to drinks when serving as a punch.
Tip: Try this using different flavored teas for a new taste each time.
